Web Designer

Location: Richmond, VA

Web Designers at Dominion Digital are responsible working with business and technical teams to identify and define project scope and requirements.  The Web Designer will work with the Art Director and translate client strategy and requirements into User Archetypes, Site Architecture, Wireframes, User Interface Designs, and XHTML/CSS code.  In addition, they contribute to our technology capability and culture of business value and technical excellence.  A Web Designer’s role goes beyond technology, into leadership, team coordination and people management. 

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with business analysts and developers to design and develop interface functionality
• Translate client objectives into site structures, wire frames and flow charts assuring fluid navigation and interaction
• Create and document functional specs based on user interaction and wire frame development
• Participate in project scope and definition and review activities with team and business stakeholders
• Create design prototypes, including graphic design, site navigation, and layout of content
• Design the information architecture and user interface for client projects
• Produce detailed and concise site maps, transaction flows, diagrams and interface schematics
• Present various stages of interface design development to clients
• Translate complex information architectures into clear and useful interfaces

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in user interface design, usability, and user-centered design methodology
• Demonstrable up-to-date knowledge on the web design process and ability to conduct heuristic site analysis
• Solid design portfolio that demonstrates proficiency in web design
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite 3 (primarily Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator)
• Proficient in developing custom XHTML, CSS
• Ability to research, understand and organize specialized content
• Demonstrable understanding of the balance between creativity and technical complexity

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Design, Information Technology or a related field of study, with at least three years of experience in web design and development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
